B is for...

I’ve never been one for novels. At a push, I’ll read the occasional autobiography [full disclaimer: I've not even read all the Harry Potter books... judge me all you want!] - now that’s out the way - I’ll be the first to admit I just don’t have the concentration span. But when it comes to play-scripts… I could read for hours!

Books can form an important part of an actor’s toolkit. From play-scripts to industry survival guides to continued professional development, every actor can benefit from reading further into the craft. Books are long-lasting, and will probably outlive many of us (morbid thought...) but it's also pretty cool to think how many generations of actor or reader have held and learned from the same copy you're currently reading. No? Just me then...

I wanted to share my top ten favourite books, all of which have become a favourite for a variety of reasons, and I've done so in the hope they will encourage you - the reader and the actor - to scope them out and see if they resonate with you too. I also hope that some, or even one book on this list will inspire you to explore other similar texts. Maybe later down the line I'll explain why these are my top ten favourite books, but until then - happy reading!
